Devotion for 2011: Toward a Disciplined Imagination

1. Hiking...

Chip Ingram taught us to be R12 or Romans 12 teachers:
12:2 "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." This renewal is a purification of the imagination. Notice the discipline.

A Poem for Meris

Light Princess

So I was sanding the new fir floor
Near the counter and the sink
While I thought of you—
Watching lightness breaking through
The less radiant surface.

So I dug a little deeper into bright there
Than elsewhere to make a statement
To the spiders, birds, and principalities.
(Or maybe just to you and me.)

Thinking of a rectangular halo of light
Being prepared for your feet—make way.
So should the shining be: heaven, window,
Eyes, soul, feet, world.

Like walking on water
Or riding the clouds.
Behold, she comes, dancing on the branches
Of Douglas Fir prepared for her—
Light sleeps in her train.
