Boxes by James Klindt

Boxes are handy
Boxes are dandy
Boxes hold everything
Chocolate covered candy
Boxes of processed slimy canned fruits
And Miracle Grow which gets down to the roots
All kinds of things
A camera from Sony
Especially rice—yum, Rice-a-Roni
Animal crackers and colored pens too
What things have you had
A box hold for you?
Staples or paper
Whichever you prefer
A shiny new ring for him or for her
I don’t know exactly all they can hold
I can make a list
Until I grow old.
Boxes are awesome
I hope you’re not “Why?”ing
For they contain the medicine
That keeps you from dying
Boxes are yellow and purple and green
Maybe one held your transplanted spleen
In the garage they sit, gathering mold
Begging and pleading for something to hold.
Boxes of today
Are sights to see
They cause excitement ‘neath
The ‘ol tree
People don’t realize
How useful they are
Without them we’d not ever get very far.
Boxes have so many uses, you see
Writing them all is far beyond me.
