The Fall by R.L. Kirkendall II
O, simple leaf, residing on a branch:
How long till howling nights and wayward storms
And quaking limbs and pinching thorns
Fell your kingly form.
O, Lord, forestall that day
Speak not of its coming;
For I love that leaf
And could not bear the tumbling.
I too love leaves. They make me laugh.
